New findings

New findings about daily emotions (moods, feelings, sensations, etc.) and problems related to them - in English and Hebrew are available in this site. The texts are mainly about a new revolutional way for the maintenance of the above. Included among them a complete self-help guide, one can easily train oneself with. The revolutionary technique can be used to enhance self-growth and as substitute for psychotherapy.

The new approach

A theory based on Charles Darwin's theory about the emotions and their evolution, and on the modern concept of basic emotions, was supported in a systematic study.

This and experience were the base for the development of a General Sensate Focusing Technique, which like biofeedback WITHOUT instruments enables one to change EVERY THING.

Along the last 14 years I developed in private practice a new technique for the treatment of problems that applicants brought to me (instead of applying to the service of a psychotherapists). The essence of this technique can be described as biofeedback WITHOUT instruments.

For the last ten years the training of applicants was may sole occupation. But, only lately I understood in full that my technique is only biofeedback WITHOUT instruments.

Many people trained themselves successfully in the use of the technique from description of it in a newspaper, from copies of a short manual distributed for free in the years 1989-1992 or with the help of a book I published in 1993.

The General Sensate Focusing Technique or biofeedback WITHOUT instruments

You can use biofeedback training with instruments to change any bodily process you can measure, if you attend to the output of the instrument. However, you need not restrict yourself to feedback from instruments. You can also attend to any internal information the senses can detect: tensions, pains, fluctuation of the voice etc. - any sensation is worthy of attention and biofeedback training.

Thus, you can also change any psychological process which arouse a discernible feeling or "just" a bodily sensation, if you pay to it systematic attention (focus on it). This is the reason why I call the new technique: "The General Sensate Focusing Technique".

The technique is based on the fact that one can activate systematically the natural biofeedback processes of the body, just after short training. One does not need to restrict oneself to feedback enhanced by instruments. One can easily attend to any internal information the senses can detect: tensions, pains, fluctuation of the voice etc. - any sensation is worthy of attention and biofeedback training.

ANY process - physiological, psycho-physiological or psychological which arouse detectable sensations one can attend to - can be influenced. Even habits, "personality factors" and other "psycho-pathologies" that usually do not bring about specific discernible sensations to focus attention on, can be easily provoked to create ones.

In contrast to the usual biofeedback training, one can do it without any instrument attached to. One can do it in parallel to other things ALL along the time between training sessions. One can do it by dedicating to it short or long durations of time. One can do it just in time when the things are "hot and fresh" or recall them when ready. This could be the reason for the amazing speed in which one can resolve the problems tackled with.

The technique is easy to learn and easy to train with. There is nearly no limit of age or problem. Nearly none of the problems of interpersonal relations arousing in psychotherapy are disturbing the trainer-trainee relations.

The emotional system - for good and for bad

The emotional system, which is the sole creator of our joy and sorrow is very "economical". Thus, a small number of processes responsible for every thing in our life: what we do, what we feel, what we think, what we wish, etc. Thus, even a very small problem can cause a great trouble. Luckily, even a small amendment achieved with the new technique can bring about an unexpected improvement.

The main findings about the emotions of daily life were as follows:

A)
The main dimensions relevant to the on going subjective experience (moods, feelings, emotions etc.) and to the discrimination among those of the others, converge with the content of the basic emotions suggested Descartes and by Charles Darwin and found by Carol Izard, Paul Ekman and many others.

B)
These dimensions are relatively the same in both verbal and non-verbal domains.

C)
These dimension are bipolar (with contradicting poles like love versus hate) in accord with Darwin second principle of emotion. (It seems that this is the first "Heavy Weight" support to that principle.)

D)
The emotions of Happiness and Sorrow (or distress) commonly treated as two basic emotions are really the two contradicting poles of the same continuum.
The lengthy texts about the emotion system - theory and findings, are in the dissertation and the theoretical part of the guide.

I will be glad to share, communicate and contribute following any relevant approach.
